Sterile Processing Technician I

Job Summary:
As a Sterile Processing Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by decontaminating, cleaning, packaging, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical and surgical equipment and supplies. You will work in accordance with CDC, OSHA, EPA, AAMI, Title 22, APIC, SGNA, and JC guidelines to maintain a safe and efficient Sterile Processing Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fills orders from requesting departments and ensures timely delivery of medical and surgical equipment and supplies.
- Makes equipment rounds and returns soiled equipment to the Sterile Processing Department for cleaning and sterilization.
- Cleans and validates equipment per manufacturer's recommendations and ensures proper functionality prior to storage.
- Inventory and restocks supplies, including specialty carts, and ensures accurate tracking and documentation.
- Orders specialty beds and patient equipment as needed and in accordance with medical center practices.
- Disassembles, cleans, or decontaminates surgical instruments per manufacturer's recommendations, including ultrasonic cleaning.
- Assembles, inspects, tests, wraps, and dates simple sets per department protocol and manufacturer's instructions.
- Examines and maintains the integrity of sterile packages to ensure patient safety.
- Prepares OR case carts according to preference cards for all surgical procedures.
- Promotes and ensures excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Able to work in a collaborative environment and perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of training and service.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) and completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Program or Surgical Technician program.
- Basic knowledge of instrument processing techniques, including decontamination, assembly, and sterilization.
- Knowledge of medical, nursing, and surgical supplies and equipment.
- Ability to distinguish colors and hear audible alarms.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a stressful environment.
- Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year recent experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician working in a Sterile Processing Department in an acute hospital or ambulatory setting.
- Sterile Processing or Surgical Technician national certification.
