Highly Skilled Judicial Operations Specialist

The Minnesota Judicial Branch is seeking a highly skilled and resourceful Judicial Operations Specialist to provide exceptional legal administrative support for Court of Appeals judges. This is a highly responsible position that requires the exercise of independent judgment and a high level of accuracy with detailed tasks, under minimal supervision. The successful candidate should be comfortable in a professional environment and must be very organized and detail oriented.
Job ResponsibilitiesThe Judicial Operations Specialist will be responsible for coordinating various aspects of the progress of an appeal at the Court of Appeals, from the time the appeal is assigned to the judge to the time the opinion is released. This includes maintaining calendars of case status and tracking deadlines, coordinating the progress of an opinion from drafting stages to final release, editing and proofreading draft opinions according to judge's instruction and the court's formatting and citation style, and navigating the court's electronic case-management system (MACS) and other court software to retrieve case information and input data to reflect case status.
Additional ResponsibilitiesThe Judicial Operations Specialist will also act as executive assistant to assigned judges by performing chambers-management tasks, including managing judges' schedule and calendaring, assisting judges with preparing for upcoming appointments, facilitating judges' collaboration with and supervision of law clerks and other court staff, and tracking and reporting judges' expense reimbursement, judicial-education credits, and vacation use.
QualificationsTypical qualifications for this position include graduation from an accredited high school supplemented by a college degree and/or post high school legal/paralegal training, as well as a minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal support position. Familiarity with MACS (the Minnesota Appellate-Courts Case Management System) and proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel are also preferred qualifications. The successful candidate must be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat, have excellent skills in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, as applied to editing and proofreading, be detail-oriented and highly organized, and be comfortable working with electronic documents.

The expected starting salary range for this position is $29.13-$37.18 per hour, with a full salary range of $60,823 - $94,419 annually. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of MN employee benefits.
