Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instructional services to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Conduct assessments of students with disabilities to inform the development and implementation of individualized educational strategies.
- Create, modify, and personalize educational resources and methodologies to align with the needs of students with disabilities within the framework of the curriculum.
- Maintain comprehensive records documenting the progress of students in both special and general education settings, based on established educational goals.
- Take charge of fostering appropriate behavior among students, implementing effective discipline and management strategies.
- Continuously evaluate the academic and social development of students with disabilities.
- Participate as a member of the school IEP Team, contributing to collaborative decision-making.
- Engage with parents of students with disabilities to facilitate ongoing communication and support.
- Coordinate instructional efforts and collaborate with other educational professionals to enhance learning opportunities.
- Supervise and assign tasks to aides and volunteers as necessary.
- Ensure that the classroom environment is welcoming, safe, and conducive to learning, with accessible and well-maintained materials.
- Participate in school-wide activities and events, supporting student engagement.
- Monitor student behavior in non-instructional areas, intervening as needed to manage disruptive actions.
- Exhibit expertise in the subject areas relevant to the instruction of students with disabilities.
- Utilize a blend of traditional and innovative teaching methods to cater to diverse learning needs.
- Serve as a linguistic model for students, demonstrating proficiency in both written and spoken English.
- Effectively communicate and analyze the special education program's objectives and outcomes.
- Engage in professional development opportunities, including training and staff meetings.
- Adhere to all policies regarding equal employment and non-discrimination, complying with relevant laws and standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in special education or eligibility for conditional certification in special education.
- Accredited bachelor's degree from a recognized institution.
- Valid professional teaching certificate in special education appropriate for the assigned grade level.
- Understanding of federal regulations regarding educational services for students with disabilities.
- Familiarity with instructional content, curriculum, and resources relevant to the assigned specialty.
- Knowledge of the school's educational programs and organizational goals is preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to select and implement instructional planning and evaluation methods that align with student needs.
- Capacity to apply current research and theories to enhance instructional practices.
- Skill in planning and delivering lessons that meet both division and school objectives.
- Ability to cultivate effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
