Scientific Division Director and Research Leader

A leading research organization in Seattle, Washington is seeking an exceptional scientific leader to serve as its next Director of the Investigative Science Division.
About the RoleAs a key member of the Institute Leadership Team (ILT), the Director will provide strategic oversight for the Investigative Science Division, contributing to high-level administrative and scientific decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of scientific administrative leadership, sustained extramural research funding, and scholarly productivity as a Senior Investigator or Full Professor in Health Services Research, Behavioral Science, Health Policy, Epidemiology, or other health science disciplines aligned with the organization's mission.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the division's research agenda, aligning with the organization's overall goals and objectives.
- Leadership and Supervision: Provide direct supervision, management, and professional development for managers and scientific investigators, including annual performance evaluations, feedback, and assessment of readiness for promotion.
- Budget Management: Oversee the division budget, ensuring effective management of resources, compliance with regulations, and accurate forecasting of expenditures.
- Research Program Development: Plan, initiate, and manage scientific research and evaluation programs on topics of national and international importance, identifying research issues, designing complex projects, and securing funding through major research grants and contracts.
- National and International Recognition: Establish a reputation as a national/international leader in research specialty areas, representing the organization at conferences, publishing in leading scientific journals, and presenting research findings to policymakers and healthcare leaders.
- Doctoral Degree: A doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DrPH, SciD, or MD) in a healthcare-related field, such as medicine, epidemiology, behavioral science, or health services.
- Leadership Experience: At least 10 years of experience as an extramurally-funded Principal Investigator, leading novel or complex research, implementation, or evaluation studies.
- Management Experience: Five years of direct management experience supervising research scientists, including doctorate-trained investigators.
- Funding Experience: Proven ability to successfully compete for external research funding and secure peer-review grant funding as a publicly funded investigator.
The position offers a competitive salary range of $220-260K, plus a 20% bonus, paid relocation assistance, hybrid remote work arrangements, and a signing bonus. This role provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth and development in a world-class research environment.
