Position Overview

Almstead Tree and Shrub Care Co., a family-operated business with a legacy since 1964, is dedicated to providing exceptional service to both commercial and residential clients across the NY, NJ, and CT tri-state area.

We are in search of a Financial Controller who possesses extensive knowledge of the service sector, capable of understanding the broader objectives while being actively involved in the daily functions of the accounting team. The role encompasses all facets of general ledger management, including significant contributions to monthly and annual closing processes, budgeting, reporting, and financial analysis.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, the ability to juggle multiple tasks, and a knack for prioritizing in a dynamic environment. Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy are essential, along with strong verbal and written communication abilities that facilitate independent and collaborative work across various departments and corporate levels. Dependability and effective time management skills are crucial for meeting deadlines efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily general ledger activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, commissions, and production accounting.
  • Oversee fixed asset management and depreciation calculations.
  • Conduct inter-company reconciliations, manage prepaids, accruals, interest, and provision calculations.
  • Perform job costing for prevailing wage projects and analyze service costs across our three service lines, including equipment and supplies.
  • Handle state sales and use tax returns for all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Lead the monthly and annual general ledger closing processes.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting packages, along with interim inter-company reports as needed.
  • Assist in budget preparation and ongoing forecast maintenance.
  • Develop new spreadsheets and reports for analytical purposes as required.
  • Supervise a team of three responsible for payroll and accounts payable functions.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, coupled with over five years of hands-on experience in comprehensive accounting within a service-oriented company.
  • Highly organized with a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to accuracy, alongside analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reliable with robust time management skills, adept at multitasking and prioritizing projects to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Self-driven and proactive, capable of executing tasks both independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Office, with advanced skills in Excel and familiarity with QuickBooks.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $115,000 - $150,000, commensurate with experience. Our benefits package includes medical and dental insurance with employer contributions, a 401K retirement savings plan, paid time off, and additional perks.
