Position Summary:
As the Financial Controller, reporting directly to the CFO, you will oversee all accounting, payroll, and reporting functions for the Home Office, five regional school districts, and associated real estate entities. This role is pivotal in shaping the financial direction of Uncommon Schools, driving improvements in technology and systems. You will collaborate closely with the CFO and senior leadership, participating in presentations to various committees and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounting Operations Management (50%):
Lead the technological advancement of accounting systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP and GASB standards. Develop internal control systems and analyze financial data to provide timely reports to the CFO. - Team Leadership (25%):
Inspire and manage a team of over 25 professionals, fostering a culture of excellence in accounting operations. Implement training programs to enhance team skills and knowledge. - Cross-Functional Collaboration (15%):
Build strong relationships with leaders across departments, ensuring effective communication of policies and procedures. Develop training protocols for school staff involved in financial processes. - Real Estate Accounting Oversight (10%):
Oversee the accounting for real estate transactions, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with funding requirements.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree and CPA certification, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in a Controller role within a large nonprofit. A thorough understanding of accounting principles and nonprofit regulations is essential.
