We are in the process of establishing a new facility to accommodate our growing portfolio of precision aluminum extrusion projects. With substantial growth underway, the possibilities are boundless.

Position Overview:


As a Welding Engineer, you will be responsible for developing welding and cutting methodologies, procedures, and the application of welding technology to address fabrication challenges involving metals, leveraging your expertise in manufacturing standards.

You will provide ongoing support on the production floor, focusing on continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

General Duties:

- Provide specialized knowledge in GMAW, GTAW, and RSW.
- Design and build welding equipment that aligns with product specifications.
- Interpret CAD data, blueprints, GD&T, CMM reports, and customer welding requirements.
- Establish welding parameters and conduct testing to meet or exceed client specifications.
- Program robots to assist all Shape facilities and suppliers during the production phase.
- Uphold safety standards in process design and daily operations.
- Ensure adherence to corporate standards and quality outputs in all activities.


- Utilize data collection and analysis to substantiate provided information.

Facilitate and analyze process design experiments (DOE's) and ensure timely execution of planned tasks.

- Implement process improvements in a cost-effective manner.
- Complete cost justifications with acceptable ROI.
- Cultivate effective working relationships and communication with vendors, team members, suppliers, and project teams.
- Lead medium-sized projects with minimal supervision while developing project strategies.
- Understand the implications of decisions on various business areas.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
- Employ scientific methods for resolving complex issues.
- Clearly articulate problems and quantify the impact of corrective measures; communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders.


- Monitor and assess the outcomes of implemented solutions to identify alternative strategies and lessons learned.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as directed by leadership.

Functional Focus Areas:

- Welding Engineers will concentrate on one or more functional priorities.

Launch & Manufacturing Support:
- Enhance manufacturing processes by leading troubleshooting and continuous improvement efforts.
- Collaborate with plant problem-solving teams to ensure the production of high-quality components and a safe working environment.
- Provide on-call support for manufacturing processes to meet client demands as necessary.
- Develop maturation plans and timelines aligned with risk mitigation strategies.
- Lead initiatives to launch new business and execute maturation processes.
- Participate in regular launch team meetings.
- Offer technical solutions and support for tool design and development.
- Engage in Process Failure Mode Effects & Analysis (PFMEA) meetings.
- Specify and procure necessary capital to support new business initiatives.
- Share information with peers to standardize launching practices.
- Continuously seek opportunities to streamline maturation activities and reduce timelines.

New Business Development:
- Spearhead efforts to secure new business opportunities.
- Participate in Feasibility and Process Plan and Tolerance Reviews (PPTAR).
- Provide timely quotes as per agreements.
- Identify ways to expedite quoting, feasibility, and PPTAR processes.
- Collaborate with global peers to standardize quoting practices.
- Investigate methods to enhance competitiveness and secure business.
- Ensure a smooth transition of value streams to Launch Engineers by sharing relevant information from the quoting process.
- Verify that Minimum Process Requirements (MPR) are accurate and applicable.

Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must effectively fulfill each essential duty. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

- Engineering or Engineering Technology Degree from an accredited institution with 3-7 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering with 0-3 years of relevant engineering experience.
- 2-year Technical Degree or Journeyman card with a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience.
- Familiarity with weld verification methods, testing methodologies, and measurement tools.
- Experience with Fanuc robots, handling, and arc tools.
- Proficiency in GMAW and RSW; GTAW, laser welding, and plasma/laser cutting experience preferred.
- AWS membership preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Occasional travel may be required, up to 10% of the time.
