Role Overview

The Nursing Supervisor oversees daily operations for nursing personnel and activities related to senior housing clients, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care. Responsibilities include adherence to established policies and procedures, as well as the application of the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation) to deliver tailored nursing care.

Collaboration with inter-professional teams, including healthcare providers, is essential for planning, implementing, and evaluating client care. Duties encompass personal care management, medication administration, care planning, scheduling medical appointments, and liaising with clients, families, and various health services to ensure comprehensive care.

Proficiency in relevant technical software and process improvement is necessary. The supervisor also assists with human resources processes and may provide input for budget preparation. Monitoring inventory levels and supplies is part of the role.

Effective problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to remain calm and composed in emergencies. The supervisor interprets and adapts guidelines and procedures, ensuring compliance with risk management and clinical staff training.

Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality are crucial. Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions is essential for establishing a secure work environment. The supervisor is responsible for record-keeping and report writing, as well as participating in clinical performance assessments and recommending improvements.

Training and orientation for new staff regarding operational standards is part of the role. The supervisor may also provide clinical support when necessary and serve as a point of contact for technical training.

Typically, this position requires day hours, with flexibility to cover shifts as needed to ensure 24-hour nursing care. On-call coverage for senior housing may also be required.

The Nursing Supervisor operates within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act and relevant administrative rules. Adherence to the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses is fundamental to the delivery of nursing care.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is required.

Graduates from accredited nursing programs are preferred. For specific facilities, an educational plan towards obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Nursing may be considered.

Thorough knowledge of nursing practice standards and administrative techniques is essential.

Current unencumbered RN licensure in the relevant state is required, with maintenance of necessary competencies and certifications. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
