Job Overview

Position Summary

This role is designed to provide essential administrative assistance to the Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the guidelines of Minnesota Statutes 340A and Minnesota Rule 7515 in response to diverse inquiries and requests from clients regarding liquor licensing, enforcement, and regulation.
  • Offer technical guidance and educational support to the liquor industry and their associations concerning the liquor licensing process, tax issues, and insurance matters.
  • Manage the distribution, processing, and preparation of incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Facilitate daily financial transactions by processing cash and checks from civil fines, licenses, and permit fees.
  • Evaluate and determine the approval or denial of various retail liquor licenses while providing solutions to rectify deficiencies and discrepancies at the local level.
  • Request and gather compliance information from municipal liquor establishments to ensure adherence to liquor laws.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proficient typing and keyboarding skills.
  • Effective communication abilities to understand and relay information; proficient in reading, writing, and responding to customers in fluent English.
  • Strong customer service skills to assist clients via phone, in-person, and online regarding licensing procedures and regulations.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • Data entry proficiency for both paper forms and digital platforms; familiarity with basic office equipment and internet usage.
  • Mathematical skills to maintain accurate cash receipt records and resolve discrepancies.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a regulatory or licensing capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability in time management, multitasking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate moderately complex statutes and laws effectively.
  • Experience in high-volume customer interactions through various channels.
  • Capacity to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.

Physical Requirements:

This position may involve occasional lifting and transporting of items such as file boxes and tools, as well as maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.

Additional Requirements:

Successful completion of a background investigation is mandatory, which includes:
