The Three Affiliated Tribes is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Chief Judge to preside over the Fort Berthold District Court. As the Chief Judge, you will be responsible for overseeing the administration of justice in the Tribal Court, ensuring that all proceedings are conducted in a fair and impartial manner.
Key Responsibilities- Preside over arraignments, pre-trial conferences, civil and criminal trials, and other special hearings
- Review and supervise the maintenance of the Tribal Court docket
- Approve and sign criminal warrants, emergency orders, and other legal documents
- Adopt Court rules and regulations for the internal administration of the Court
- Assist with the preparation and administration of the Court's annual budget
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school
- Attorney licensed by a State and the Fort Berthold District Court and in good standing with both the licensing State and the Three Affiliated Tribes
- Experience in Federal Indian law
- Valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a North Dakota license
The Chief Judge will work in the MHA Nation Public Safety and Judicial Center with indoor office space and courtrooms.
Preferred Qualifications- Bona fide American Indian applicants
