Program Overview

We are looking for motivated individuals with backgrounds in mechanical fields such as automotive, aviation, or military mechanics to enhance their skills for a career in the heavy machinery sector. This training initiative is tailored to accelerate the development of candidates with prior mechanical experience into proficient Altorfer Technicians. Participants will engage in a series of ten practical training sessions. Training will take place at our dedicated facility, with attendance required one week each month over a span of ten months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete necessary online training modules before participating in hands-on sessions.
  • Attend monthly instructor-led classes covering various topics including: Introduction and Orientation, Diesel Engine Fundamentals, Electrical Systems 1 & 2, Hydraulic Systems, Powertrain Fundamentals 1 & 2, Tier 4 Final Emissions Standards, Fuel Systems, and Air Conditioning.
  • When not in training, perform maintenance and repairs on Caterpillar and other heavy machinery.
  • Safely operate equipment to diagnose technical issues and identify appropriate solutions.
  • Build and maintain a customer-focused relationship with clients and supervisors.
  • Timely completion of service documentation.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of mechanical experience is essential.
  • Fundamental knowledge of engine diagnostics, electrical systems, and hydraulic troubleshooting.
  • Military veterans are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and proper use of safety gear in the workshop.
  • Self-motivated with effective time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel for training sessions as required.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • Availability for overtime and weekend work when necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capability to lift weights up to 75-100 lbs and provide personal tools.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.

Physical and Working Conditions

Participants will experience a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training in a workshop environment. While not in training, work will be conducted in a shop or warehouse setting. The role may involve frequent walking, bending, and lifting of heavy objects. Appropriate safety equipment must be worn as needed. The work environment typically has moderate to high noise levels. Flexibility in work hours and schedules is essential, as is the willingness to travel for training.
