Regulatory Affairs Intern

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Regulatory Affairs Intern to join our team at Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies. As a member of our regulatory team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our property and casualty insurance policies meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of regulatory strategies to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with regulatory affairs analysts to draft and review policy forms, business documents, and other regulatory materials.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify trends and issues related to regulatory compliance.
  • Provide support for the filing of policy forms with state insurance departments.
  • Assist in the maintenance of policy form databases and ensure accuracy and completeness of policy form templates.
  • Shadow regulatory affairs analysts in the auditing and review of issued policies to ensure compliance with company specifications and state rules and regulations.
  • Learn compliance survey and audit work of the Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies group of insurance companies' operations.
  • Assist in the review of legislative material received from state insurance departments, industry service organizations, and motor vehicle departments for impact on policy forms, rates, rules, applications, underwriting rules, and company procedures.
  • Assist in the company response to market conduct exams and similar state insurance department inquiries by answering questions and discussing various issues.

Requirements:

  • Sophomore or Junior standing
  • Basic math skills
  • Personal computer and software skills
  • Experience with MS Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
