Position Overview:
The University of California is looking for a dedicated Financial Counselor to support the Department of Psychiatry in managing patient financial matters.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Collecting and verifying comprehensive financial and demographic information from patients.
2. Acting as a liaison among patients, medical staff, and various hospital departments.
3. Monitoring accounts for updates in status, including insurance changes.
4. Facilitating self-pay arrangements and securing financial sponsorships.
5. Evaluating patient eligibility for government assistance programs.
6. Addressing patient inquiries regarding billing and financial processes.
7. Performing additional tasks as required.

Compensation:
Salary range: $29.42/hr - $42.14/hr

Qualifications:
- Previous experience with Medi-Cal, HMO's, PPO's, and third-party payers, including knowledge of authorizations and eligibility criteria.
- Proficient typing skills.
- At least 2 years of experience in securing insurance benefits and authorizations.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Windows, Outlook, and basic PC applications.
- Knowledge of NPBHS and Medical Enterprise services, as well as Care Connect (EPIC) systems is highly desirable.
- Capability to manage patient interactions, registration, and appointment scheduling using computerized systems.
- Ability to handle responsibilities amidst frequent interruptions.
- Proficient in basic arithmetic for determining financial eligibility and required deposits.
- Understanding of various departments, patient-related policies, and the University system's services and programs is preferred.
- Strong communication skills to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
