Role Summary:
Responsible for customer reception; selling pharmacy products; transcribing information for prescription labels; assisting the pharmacist with administrative tasks in accordance with established protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Adheres to Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and relevant state, federal, and local regulations.

  1. Welcomes patients; initiates sales and performs various clerical duties by recording necessary patient information before routing prescriptions to the pharmacist.
  2. Markets pharmacy products to the appropriate patients, determining fees for items based on established guidelines; documents transactions using the cash register.
  3. Transcribes dosage instructions and data, such as drug names and quantities for labels as required by abbreviated or symbolized information from physician orders.
  4. Calculates cash payments received and completes bank deposit slips for corresponding funds, forwarding cash register tape subtotals and transmittal forms to Cash Control as needed.
  5. Handles telephone inquiries for the Pharmacy by directing calls or gathering necessary information for prescription refill requests; retrieves relevant prescription refill requests and provides them to the pharmacist.
  6. May order pharmacy products from designated vendors as indicated on inventory control documents under the pharmacist's direction.
  7. May receive incoming pharmacy products by signing delivery receipts; verifies shipment contents according to names and quantities with related packing slips and purchase orders, noting received quantities and dates in the appropriate format; refers issues such as damaged items or discrepancies in shipping documents to the supervisor; submits required documents to the Accounts Payable Department after obtaining authorized signatures.
  8. Maintains established quantities for pharmacy products in designated areas and may manage display shelves.
  9. Keeps assigned areas and equipment organized and clean; ensures a safe and efficient working environment.
  10. Maintains records of medications issued to nursing units and verifies completed sheets returned by the nursing unit, preparing utilization tally sheets for specific drugs according to established procedures.
  11. Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relationships with the public, patients, and other staff.
  12. Performs additional duties as required.
  13. Enhances customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills aligned with the organization's philosophy of providing exceptional customer relations and quality service.
