Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team at the City of Farmington, MN. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting the community, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol designated areas of the city on foot and/or in a radio-equipped patrol car to ensure public safety and prevent crime.
  • Conduct complex investigations, render service, and enforce traffic and criminal laws to maintain order and protect the community.
  • Interact and work with diverse groups of people within the department and the community to provide excellent customer service and collect information.
  • Use problem-solving skills, creativity, and innovative approaches to identify community concerns, present options for courses of action, identify resources, plan for implementation, and evaluate success.
  • Coordinate information and resources among department employees, public and private agencies, and citizens regarding crime problems and solutions.
  • Read and apply department policies, rules, regulations, instructions, laws, and ordinances, as well as general literature pertaining to policing.
  • Analyze and interpret legal codes and criminal evidence to make informed decisions.
  • Prepare written reports and memoranda summarizing information and presenting findings.
  • Use computers for reports, communications, and information retrieval to stay organized and efficient.
  • Testify in court regarding policing duties and provide expert testimony.
  • Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.
Requirements
  • Associates Degree in law enforcement or criminal justice, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Minnesota P.O.S.T. license by appointment date.
  • Valid MN Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in law enforcement or a related field.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions under pressure.
