ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Operates under the Administrative oversight of the Chief of Police.
Responsible for the enforcement of all municipal Animal Control and Park Ranger regulations, including citation issuance, court appearances, park patrol, and animal impoundment.
Conducts patrols within City limits to identify stray animals, capturing and transporting them to designated shelters.
Surveys all City parks to prevent vandalism, including graffiti, ensuring appropriate conduct, fostering public relations, and enforcing relevant ordinances as outlined by City Code.
Inspects equipment operation at Parks and Recreation facilities, ensuring security at scheduled times.
Addresses complaints regarding animal-related issues or violations of Chapter 6, including but not limited to animals at large, bites, property damage, or injuries.
Works assigned shifts, utilizing independent judgment to manage challenging and emergency situations autonomously.
Maintains availability via radio or telephone for consultation during major emergencies or critical incidents.
Executes duties in accordance with City laws and regulations.
Maintains communication with police dispatch to coordinate investigative efforts, provide mutual assistance during emergencies, and relay administrative information regarding departmental activities.
Required to perform shift work, rotating through days, evenings, and nights, including weekends and holidays.
Employs excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, officials, and the public.
Assists officers in coordinating vehicle tows at accident scenes and other situations involving vehicles.
Supports certified patrol officers in traffic management, including accident scene control, special events, and similar scenarios.
Investigates non-injury accidents on private property; collects witness and victim statements; documents reports on specific offenses such as gas fraud, lost or stolen property, found or recovered bicycles, or other non-arrest misdemeanor reports.
Green tagging vehicles that are being sold illegally within the City of Farmington.
Conducts inspections of Business Licenses within the City of Farmington; evaluates food vendors for compliance with state and local licenses.
Renews Trespass Authority within the City of Farmington.
Attendance at work is a critical function of this position.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Activates ball field lights as necessary.
Performs crossing guard duties as required.
Enforces priority permit holders at Parks facilities.
Maintains departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities.
Serves on various employee committees.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.
Excellent public relations skills. Ability to manage aggressive animals and handle irate or intoxicated individuals.
Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds to load animals into vehicles.
Knowledge of and concern for animal welfare.
Previous experience as a veterinary assistant and/or security guard or law enforcement experience preferred, but not required.
Must pass a background check.
Ability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Subject to on-call and rotating shifts.
Ability to learn applicable laws, ordinances, and departmental rules and regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and the public.
Ability to work under pressure and manage stressful situations.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Patrol vehicle, golf cart, bicycle, animal capture equipment, police radio, first aid equipment, catch poles, leashes, gloves, and ropes for handling animals.
