Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician to join our Public Works team in Desert Hot Springs, CA. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties involved in the maintenance and repair of public works and park systems and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare surfaces for paving, mix cement, break up paved surfaces, and perform other related tasks.
  • Operate hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, jackhammers, and tampers, and load and unload trucks.
  • Excavate and fill trenches and ditches, operate compressors and spray rigs, and perform other related tasks.
  • Maintain, mow, and water lawns, trim and plant shrubs, cultivate and fertilize lawns, spray weeds, rake leaves, and pick up trash from park areas.
  • Clean gutters and park pathways, assist in planting shrubs, and clean and perform maintenance work on park equipment, buildings, and facilities.
  • Promote personnel safety programs and review and inspect work in progress and upon completion.
Requirements
  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
  • A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance, or a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in municipality maintenance is desired but not required, and a valid California driver's license with a good driving record at time of appointment is required.
Working Conditions

The essential and marginal functions of this job may require maintaining physical condition necessary for lifting up to 100 lbs., bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, running, standing, sitting, or walking for prolonged periods of time. Ability to work prolonged periods outdoors subject to extreme temperature and other weather-related environmental conditions.
