We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at the City of Gig Harbor, WA. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining public safety, preventing crime, and enforcing local, state, and federal laws.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol the community in a vehicle, on foot, or bicycle to deter and detect criminal activity.
- Respond to calls for service, administer first aid, document allegations of a crime, protect persons and property, and advise on preventative practices.
- Perform preliminary and continued investigations, search for and collect physical evidence, and interview witnesses and victims.
- Enforce traffic laws, monitor traffic movement, contract violators, and issue traffic citations.
- Conduct security surveys for businesses and inspect new construction for compliance with security ordinances.
- Recover and return stolen property, testify in court, and write reports on alleged crimes, traffic accidents, and arrests.
- Perform crisis intervention, explain the process of filing a formal complaint, and provide referrals to community resources.
- At least 21 years of age at time of application.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- US citizen or lawful permanent resident.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Valid Washington State driver license or ability to obtain one prior to hire.
- Score a minimum of 70% on Oral Board interview.
- Successfully pass background investigation, emotional intelligence screening, polygraph, psychological, and medical examination.
- Persons who have not attained commissioned peace officer status but have successfully completed a basic law enforcement academy recognized as a full equivalent to the Washington state basic law enforcement academy by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission within the preceding twelve months.
- Persons whose peace officer certification, commission, and/or licensing has lapsed because of a break in service as a full-time, fully commissioned peace officer in this or any other state or territory for more than twenty-four months but less than sixty months.
- Longevity Premium Pay: 2.5% of base salary after 2 years of continuous employment, 5% after 5 years, and 6.5% after 10 years.
- College Premium Pay: 2% of base salary for an Associate Degree and 3% for a Bachelor Degree.
- Shift Differential: 5% of base salary for shifts beginning at 12pm or later.
- Assigned Take-Home Vehicle.
- Uniforms and Equipment provided by the city.
- Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance through Teamsters Welfare Trust.
- Retirement Medical Plan (RWT-Plus) eligible after 3 years of service.
- Disability Insurance through Standard Insurance - Trusteed Plan Services Corporation.
- Annual Leave: 80 hours of vacation, 96 hours of sick leave, 110 hours of holiday, 2 floating holidays, and 40 hours of bereavement leave.
- Retirement and Savings Accounts: 8.53% employee contribution and 5.30% employer contribution to 401(a) plan.
