Aquatic Operations Manager

Job Summary:
The Aquatic Operations Manager will oversee the planning, supervision, and implementation of activities in the Aquatic Department. This role may require lifeguarding and teaching responsibilities. The successful candidate will be required to attend all in-service trainings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shift Oversight: Provide on-deck shift oversight for daily operations of the aquatics facility, including weekly programming as directed by the Aquatics Manager or on-duty Coordinator.
- Support to Swim Instructors and Coaches: Provide assistance to swim instructors and team coaches during swim programming and practices to ensure a safe and customer-friendly experience for participants and patrons.
- Enforcement of Safety Protocols: Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees. Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions.
- Maintenance of Aquatic Areas: Maintain order and cleanliness in all swimming areas, on deck, and in water.
- Training and Instruction: Assist in training and instruction of recommended TSA Aquatic staff for Instructor-level Certifications. This training will lend to, but not be limited to, their ability to train and teach other lifeguards and TSA staff.
- Emergency Response: Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
- Radio Communication and Emergency Response: Must monitor and assist aquatic staff with proper radio calls and emergency response.
- Regular Skill-Based Audits: Conduct regular skill-based audits of lifeguard staff on a rotation so as to help ensure proper team response and preparedness.
- Conduct In-Service Trainings: Assist, when asked by manager, with conducting in-service trainings when necessary.
- Rescue and First Aid: Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning. Provide first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR when needed.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain and review records and reports as assigned. Oversee that all incident reports are properly completed and filed with the Aquatic Manager.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Inspect and supervise staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned, as well as performing cleaning as needed.
- Customer Service: Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service.
- Problem-Solving and Communication: Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving. Ensure that safety protocols and aquatic standards are in place during shift assignments.
- Communication and Teamwork: Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone. Must be able to communicate during uncomfortable situations to address concerns with a customer or staff member.
- Liability Reporting: See that Liability injuries are reported timely and according to procedure.
- Safe Working Environment: Maintain a safe working environment. Report all harmful problems with facilities to the Aquatic Manager.
- Professional Appearance: Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
- Additional Assignments: Other aquatic assignments as required.
General Qualifications and Proficiencies:
- Age and Education: 18 years of age preferable. Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Work Schedule: Must be able to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
- Public Interaction: Experience working with the public.
- Teamwork and Communication: Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members, and customers. Ability to be self-motivated, work independently, and in a team environment. Must also have effective communication skills and engage positively with the public.
- Lifeguarding and Instruction Experience: Must have at least two years of experience as a lifeguard and aquatic instructor.
- Desirable Qualifications: Extensive prior experience as a swim instructor highly desirable. One year prior experience as a head lifeguard, Lifeguard II, or equivalency, highly desirable.
- Certifications: Must have prior to start of employment unless otherwise noted and must maintain current certifications in the following:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
- American Red Cross Water Park Lifeguard certification
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Management certification within nine months of hire
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within nine months of hire
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification within nine months of hire
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification to include AED
- American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification
- American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens within 90 days of hire
- Desirable Certifications: CPO certification highly desirable. Emergency Response or other advance first aid desirable.
- Computer Skills: Must have excellent computer skills; with working experience of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
- Health and Safety Regulations: Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as TSA.
- Philosophy of Education and Child Development: Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and TSA.
- Ability to Work with Children and Staff: Have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling, and education.
Physical Requirements:
- Swimming Ability: Must maintain minimum fitness level to be able to accomplish the following:
- 300 yard swim in less than 15 minutes
- Tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands
- Physical Demands: Position requires proficient swimming ability and endurance. Must perform the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques. This position requires the ability to properly extract victims from the pool(s) to the deck, and ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs., sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, jog, pull, push, balance, reach, and ability to use fingers and hands. Position may require operating equipment such as computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
- Physical and Mental Health: Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of all aquatics areas.
