Job Overview:

The Clery Compliance Officer and Inspector is responsible for overseeing and coordinating inspections that are integral to the department's continuous accreditation efforts. This role includes managing compliance with the Federal Clery Act and conducting various background and administrative investigations as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a Campus Security Authority in alignment with the Federal Clery Act.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Clery Act compliance initiatives.
  • Maintain expertise in the standards set by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) or equivalent.
  • Keep organized records that demonstrate compliance.
  • Prepare reports and documentation that support accreditation goals.
  • Oversee the accreditation process, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Review departmental policies to confirm adherence to accreditation standards.
  • Inform staff about regulatory changes, new laws, and advancements in policing techniques.
  • Provide training related to accreditation for agency personnel.
  • Coordinate and facilitate on-site evaluations and inspections.
  • Conduct background checks and other administrative inquiries as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of two years of law enforcement experience, including at least one year directly involved in a successful CALEA accreditation process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education or law enforcement, either in sworn or non-sworn roles.
  • Completion of Federal Clery Act Compliance training from a recognized provider.
  • Training related to accreditation processes in higher education or law enforcement.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Familiarity with local community resources and law enforcement agencies.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic organizational and planning abilities.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading or coordinating team efforts.
  • Commitment to confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the information handled.
