Job Summary

The Fire System/Extinguisher Technician is responsible for the inspection, service, and installation of fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and fire suppression systems. This includes kitchen hoods, paint booths, and other fire suppression systems. The technician is also responsible for the inspection and service of fire extinguishers. The supervisor's responsibilities are not applicable to this role.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform semi-annual and annual inspections of restaurant and industrial fire suppression systems, fire sprinkler systems, and fire alarm systems.
  • Document findings and note deficiencies on inspection reports.
  • Perform annual maintenance and inspections of fire extinguishers.
  • Determine the proper type, quantity, and placement of fire extinguishers based on hazard and occupancy classification.
  • Exchange fire extinguishers that require service and replace obsolete or damaged units.
  • Install fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall hangers.
  • Indicate the type, size, and location of fire extinguishers on inspection reports.
  • Communicate any non-compliance issues to customers.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, and other team members to ensure efficient and effective installation, repair, and maintenance of fire suppression, fire sprinkler, and fire alarm systems.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to customers regarding fire suppression, fire sprinkler, and fire alarm systems, including system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certifications or training on fire extinguisher and fire suppression, fire sprinkler, and fire alarm systems is strongly preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity and the ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Proven experience working as a Fire Technician is preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting NFPA standards and technical manuals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and ability to pass a drug and background check.
Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and have full use of hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to work from a ladder and in some cases, a man-lift. The employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel daily.
