Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child Protective Investigations (CPI) Investigator Trainee to join our team at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. As a CPI Investigator Trainee, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children in Texas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough and objective investigations of reports of child abuse and neglect, gathering information and interviewing witnesses and family members as needed.
  • Assess the risk of harm to children and determine the necessary actions to protect them, including removing children from their families if necessary.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officials, judicial officials, legal resources, medical professionals, and the community.
  • Work under constant deadlines, prioritizing tasks and working flexible hours as needed.
  • Attend and participate in training, meetings, and staffings to stay up-to-date on best practices and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to maintain unit operations.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of child development and the effects of trauma on children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound judgments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate and complete records.
