Mammography Imaging Specialist

Job Summary:
The Mammography Imaging Specialist will be responsible for performing a full range of screening and diagnostic imaging procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This includes performing mammographic imaging quality control tests, maintaining MQSA compliance, and ensuring proper patient identification appears on every image.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plans the performance of the imaging procedure based on the needs of the patient.
- Works to continually develop skill sets and become competent in all exams within job scope defined by leadership.
- Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
- Positions and compresses the patient accurately for procedure and fully images all breast tissue.
- Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by shielding and correctly selecting exposure factors.
- Evaluates images for compliance with protocol, image density, contrast, detail, positioning, compression, and absence of image artifact.
- Educates patients regarding mammographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
- Documents imaging activities accurately and consistently in accordance with ACR and federal mandates.
- Engages in problem-solving, crisis management, and systems implementation with physicians, nursing, technical, and support personnel throughout the hospital.
Requirements:
- Completion of a two-year American Medical Association-approved course in Radiologic Technology or other accredited and approved medical imaging program.
- Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire.
- Certification in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist.
- Certification in Mammography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist within 18 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ARRT Certification in Mammography upon hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph.
- Stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 10 pounds of weight.
- Carry items of up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, body fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
- Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team.
