We are seeking a highly skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a Mammography Technologist, you will be responsible for performing a full range of screening and diagnostic imaging procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans the performance of the imaging procedure based on the needs of the patient.
  • Positions and compresses the patient accurately for the procedure and fully images all breast tissue.
  • Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by shielding and correctly selecting exposure factors.
  • Evaluates images for compliance with protocol, image density, contrast, detail, positioning, compression, and absence of image artifact.
  • Educates patients regarding mammographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
  • Documents imaging activities accurately and consistently in accordance with ACR and federal mandates.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a two-year American Medical Association-approved course in Radiologic Technology or other accredited and approved medical imaging program.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Certification in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist.
  • Certification in Mammography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist within 18 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ARRT Certification in Mammography upon hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph.
  • Stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 10 pounds of weight.
  • Carry items of up to 20 pounds.

Working Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, body fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
