Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team at MyMichigan Health - Alpena. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the comfort and safety of our patients while collecting high-quality blood specimens for diagnostic testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greets Patients and Families: Provide a professional and cheerful greeting to patients and their families, setting the tone for a positive experience.
  • Answers Telephone Calls: Respond to incoming calls in a timely and professional manner, directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Collects Blood Specimens: Safely and efficiently collect blood specimens from patients, minimizing discomfort and ensuring accurate results.
  • Identifies and Labels Specimens: Positively identify and label specimens according to patient and specimen identification policies, using computer systems to register and accession specimens.
  • Maintains Inventory and Supplies: Assist with inventory management and supply ordering to ensure a well-stocked and efficient laboratory environment.
  • Performs Miscellaneous Duties: Assist with specimen processing and perform other related tasks as needed to support the laboratory team.
Requirements
  • Education: Requires completion of a formal phlebotomy program that includes both classroom and practical (on-the-job) experience, or equivalent education or experience.
  • Certifications and Licensures: Must possess a valid driver's license and be fingerprinted, as required by the hospital.
  • Skills and Abilities: Must be able to work with diverse patient populations, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Must be able to move freely about the facility and perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Working Conditions

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief, and death. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or appropriate substitutes, as required for the position. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent postural changes and repetitive movements.
