Fremont, California, United States NEXTracker Full time
Job Overview:

At Nextracker, we are at the forefront of innovative technologies that enhance the efficiency of utility-scale solar power plants, revolutionizing our approach to harnessing solar energy. We prioritize excellence and effectiveness, and we are in search of a skilled Senior Process Engineering Specialist to significantly contribute to the refinement of our manufacturing operations. In this capacity, you will utilize your knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles to collaborate with both internal teams and external partners, facilitating the seamless transition of new electronic products from the design phase to mass production. You will engage with various departments, including engineering, sourcing, quality assurance, and program management, to evaluate current processes, pinpoint improvement opportunities, and execute data-driven strategies that boost efficiency, yield, and overall product quality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with R&D teams to oversee the transition from prototype to large-scale production. Collaborate with external suppliers to document and assess manufacturing workflows for mechanical and motion control products.
  • Identify and implement critical quality attributes (CQA) and develop control plans to guarantee product quality and uniformity, employing tools such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Process Flow Mapping (PFMEA) to outline potential failure modes and their effects on CQAs.
  • Examine production metrics to assess yield, capacity, and discover avenues for process enhancement. Utilize statistical process control (SPC) methods, including control charts (e.g., X-bar R charts, c-charts), to detect process variations and improvement opportunities.
  • Apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies to refine manufacturing processes, minimize waste, and enhance productivity. This may include techniques such as:
  • Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to identify and eliminate non-value-added activities in the production cycle.
  • Kanban systems to optimize material flow and manage inventory levels effectively.
  • Poka-Yoke (mistake-proofing) strategies to avert defects from occurring.
  • Design of Experiments (DOE) to fine-tune process parameters and decrease variability.
  • Generate and maintain process documentation, including work instructions and control plans, ensuring clarity and precision.
  • Conduct process audits to identify non-conformance issues and recommend corrective measures based on Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and implement process enhancements based on data analysis and statistical methods.
  • Oversee and monitor projects related to process optimization, adhering to the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) framework.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging technologies pertinent to high-volume manufacturing, including advancements in automation, AI detection, and AI process modeling.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline (Master's degree is advantageous).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing process engineering position, ideally within the solar, industrial motion control, automotive, or commercial building products sectors.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers and working alongside external teams. Experience in a contract manufacturing setting is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Lean Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred).
  • Strong grasp of statistical process control (SPC) techniques, with practical experience applying control charts to analyze process data.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a data-centric approach to process enhancement.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
