Job Description

This position is a key role in the assembly and erection of steel and aluminum hull vessels.

The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of assembly and erection processes and be a certified weld instructor (CWI).

  • Must be familiar with the installation of all outfitting items required.
  • Must be capable of reading and understanding of shipyard construction and work package assembly drawings.
  • Must be familiar with the techniques used in the proper alignment of components of sub-assemblies.
  • Must have basic knowledge of acceptable welds and weld preparation and coordinate with other shifts and departments.
  • Must comply with all safety procedures and guidelines, and comply with all company issued policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Must have excellent work ethic including excellent attendance, punctuality, and the desire to complete designated work in a timely fashion.
  • Must be an excellent communicator and be computer literate.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining work schedules.
  • Enforcing all company policies.
  • Training and developing subordinates.
  • Maintaining proper manpower levels as needed to support schedule and budget.
  • Coordinating with QC Department for quality issues and inspections.
  • Coordinating with Fabrication shop on units and parts being moved into the assembly stages.
  • Reviewing production schedules in detail and working with Planning and Scheduling to maintain delivery dates as required.
  • Coordinating with Maintenance and Facilities on any related issues.
  • Following attendance and enforcing progressive discipline for employees with attendance or performance problems.
  • Having good organizational skills and ability to accomplish the required assignments within designated timeframes.
  • Having ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management, craft and different departments.

Work Demands:

The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to respirator, hardhat, face shield, safety goggles, safety shoes (steel toe), safety harness, gloves or other protective clothing as determined by customer Job Hazard Analysis.

The employee must report all accidents or injuries to their supervisor and the Environmental Safety and Health Department.

The employee must report to the Assembly Shop Manager any and all damages to equipment, or broken and misused tools.

The employee needs to work at a pace consistent with meeting company deadlines.

  • Must have at least 5 years' experience in assembly and erection of various sub-assemblies, outfitting, and pre-erection stages.
  • Responsible for safety by enforcing safety guidelines and proper use of PPE.

Required Skills: CWI process development, product quality assurance, production part approval process.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
