Role Purpose:

The Reinsurance Accountant will manage the reinsurance operations for specific treaties. This role encompasses the execution, evaluation, and analysis of complex settlements assigned to the individual. Reporting to the Manager of Reinsurance Accounting, this position requires collaboration with peers and leaders throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain intricate reinsurance settlements for designated agreements, ensuring coordination of work requirements and deadlines with various teams, journal entry preparation, and result analysis.
  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of the automated reinsurance accounting system.
  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the mechanics behind the assigned reinsurance agreements.
  • Proactively investigate and resolve discrepancies and inconsistencies in settlements through thorough analysis.
  • Address requests from other departments regarding reinsurance information.
  • Conduct analysis and reconciliations of complex balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensure timely and precise preparation of month-end and quarter-end closing activities.
  • Serve as a primary contact for assigned internal and external reinsurance stakeholders.
  • Assist with departmental projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is essential.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, with a proven ability to identify, research, and devise solutions for accounting challenges.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is preferred, particularly in public accounting or the insurance sector.
  • Familiarity with statutory or US GAAP accounting within a life insurance context is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience with Oracle, Essbase, and Hyperion is preferred.
  • Completion of or interest in pursuing CPA and/or FLMI designations is favorable.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
