Geotechnical Engineer Job Description

Geosyntec Consultants is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Seattle, WA. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for working on a variety of complex projects, including bridge replacements, landslide stabilization, transportation and roadway design, water and wastewater conveyance, reservoirs and dams, mid- and high-rise buildings, development within and near steep-slope sensitive areas, and floodplain and natural habitat restoration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work directly with Aspect geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists to support clients and technically challenging projects.
  • Prepare proposals and budgets for new projects and opportunities.
  • Plan and coordinate subsurface exploration programs, including client and stakeholder engagement.
  • Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations, including slope stability analyses, seismic evaluations, shallow and deep foundation design, ground improvement design, excavation and shoring evaluations, and other technical evaluations.
  • Prepare written geotechnical reports, working with dedicated editing, data, and mapping teams to create high-end deliverables.
  • Effectively manage project schedules, scopes of work, and financial aspects, including profitability and invoicing.
  • Develop new opportunities with existing clients through effective project delivery and client engagement.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams, including clients, architects, engineers, and contractors, to share project information, objectives, and geotechnical engineering recommendations.
  • Coordinate and oversee construction oversight programs to ensure successful project completion.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training opportunities in geotechnical engineering, project and people management, and consulting.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geological engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university with geotechnical engineering coursework.
  • Professional Engineer's License in the State of Washington or ability to obtain it within 6 months of starting.
  • At least 5 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 1 to 2 years of project management experience.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a range of weather conditions in rugged and sometimes remote field locations.
  • Ability to travel long distances and accommodate occasional overnight travel.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.
Compensation:

The typical base salary range for this position is $93,875 - $122,040, which is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set, and location.
