Overview: The Patient Care Technician is integral in assisting registered nurses with patient care responsibilities. This role involves a range of critical tasks, such as greeting patients, preparing them for evaluations and procedures, collecting blood samples, conducting EKGs, and ensuring that all equipment is clean and operational.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Greet patients and verify identification.
  2. Prepare patients for assessments, examinations, and procedures.
  3. Collect blood samples using aseptic techniques, ensuring proper labeling and handling.
  4. Conduct EKGs as instructed.
  5. Ensure all necessary equipment is present, functional, and sanitized.
  6. Assist in transporting patients to various departments as needed.
  7. Support patients with meal assistance or feeding when required.
  8. Monitor inventory levels and restock supplies as necessary.
  9. Prepare patient rooms for new admissions.
  10. Deliver direct hygiene and comfort care, including bathing, toileting, and oral hygiene.
  11. Record vital signs upon admission and report findings to the registered nurse.
  12. Perform glucose finger sticks and collect other specimens as directed.
  13. Document daily patient weights and monitor intake and output.
  14. Maintain a safe environment by promptly responding to call lights and communicating any changes in patient status to the registered nurse.
  15. Recognize and address the specific needs of diverse patient populations, adapting care as needed based on age, culture, language, and sensory considerations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or completion of a Patient Care Technician program (including Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant training).
  2. A minimum of one year of experience as a PCT or CNA in a healthcare setting is highly desirable.

Certification Requirements: Must maintain current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Interactions: Regular interaction with medical staff, patients, and visitors.
