At Celebrity Cruises Inc., our entertainment systems aboard our premier cruise vessels are managed by three key specialists: The Performance Flight Technician, the Lighting Technician, and the Audio Technician.

Performance Flight Technician – Rigging and Operations

The Performance Flight Technician is accountable for the daily management and upkeep of all performer flight apparatus in the main theatre of the vessels. Responsibilities include:

  • Executing and coordinating flight sequences during the cast production performances, while conducting routine evaluations of the performer flight equipment and harness systems.
  • Participating in all shows, rehearsals, aerial strength training sessions, and any other events that utilize the performer flight systems.
  • Ensuring adherence to organizational and industry safety protocols regarding the operation and maintenance of performer flight systems.

In addition to the aforementioned responsibilities, the Performance Flight Technician will also support the Stage & Production Manager in managing Guest Entertainer performances and coordinating all stage needs for the guest artists. This encompasses arranging tables, chairs, stools, dressing cables, and serving as the communication liaison between the entertainers and the Audio & Lighting Technician as required. The Performance Flight Technician will assist with all backstage resets, operate stage automation reset cues, and support the Entertainment Staff with various technical duties in alternative entertainment venues as directed by the Stage & Production Manager.

Essential Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in theatre (with a focus on theatre technology or entertainment rigging) from an accredited institution or equivalent experience is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in entertainment or theatrical technology roles; including stagehand, backstage, rigging, and performer flight experience is essential.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with various entertainment rigging systems, including motorized hoists and winches, is required.
  • Thorough understanding of motorized performer flight systems, equipment, and safety regulations.
  • Experience collaborating with performers in a multicultural environment.
  • Basic understanding of sound equipment setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in computer usage (Windows and Mac) and connecting to external devices such as projectors and television screens, along with relevant troubleshooting skills.
  • Prior experience on cruise ships or in touring environments is advantageous.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to work positively and collaboratively in a diverse team setting to meet established deadlines.
  • Aptitude for tactful communication with colleagues and other shipboard personnel to resolve issues and negotiate solutions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt effectively to sudden changes.
