Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Performance Dietitian Internship candidate to join our team at Public Health Trust of Dade Co. As a Performance Dietitian Internship, you will be responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based care to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate information pertinent to the nutritional care of patients through documentation in the patient's medical record and verbally with other care providers.
  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients and their families.
  • Develop and implement nutrition care plans based on assessment of the patient.
  • Evaluate patient's response, update care plan, and document assessment plan and response in the patient record.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to coordinate care.
  • Chart admitting diet orders on all patients and delegate tasks to Dietetic Technicians.
  • Instruct or counsel patients on nutritional needs, diet modifications, and food/drug interactions.
  • Collaborate with the Food Service department to provide nutritionally appropriate menus, food options, and services for patients.
  • Teach nutrition classes for patients, hospital personnel, and community groups.
  • Resource for physicians, hospital personnel, and the community regarding nutrition practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends in nutrition.
  • Actively participate in projects, committees, and/or task forces to improve department and hospital processes and patient care outcomes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • Ability to assess and react to the needs of patients/customers relative to their age-specific, physical, psychosocial, communication, cultural, and spiritual needs in an effective and timely manner.
  • Interact in a collaborative manner with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Initiate or participate in performance improvement activities that increase patient satisfaction, operating efficiency, and positive patient outcomes.
  • Participate in the on-going orientation process/training of employees.
  • Complete cross-training as required.
  • Chart appropriately in the patient medical record after each patient contact.
  • Offer to help others when own assignments are completed.
  • Assume responsibility for a program unit efficiency and productivity and meet clinical productivity standards.
  • Understand and apply PHT and DSA policies.
  • Follow policies and procedures and use sound judgment to perform job duties.
  • Utilize available PHT and community resources effectively.
  • Serve as a resource person in nutrition care for medical and nursing care.
  • Direct and supervise work of clinical supportive staff (Dietetic Technician).
  • Develop age-specific patient education materials and conduct nutrition education classes for patients and staff, as required.
  • Teach and precept in dietetic internship.
  • Participate in healthcare team activities and patient rounds.
  • Orient new staff members to the clinical practice system.
  • Plan and evaluate care for community components.
  • Assume responsibility for a program unit efficiency and productivity.
  • Coordinate major projects in the clinical nutrition program such as quality assurance, patient education, and evaluation.
