Mechanical Quality Inspector

The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that products meet the required standards and specifications. This involves inspecting materials and products, identifying defects, and reporting them to the Quality Manager. The Quality Inspector also develops and maintains quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect materials and products to ensure they meet the required standards and specifications.
- Identify defects and report them to the Quality Manager.
- Develop and maintain quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products.
- Work with precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement and analytical equipment and facilities.
- Follow procedures for disposition of discrepant material (i.e., DMR/RMA process).
- Compute unspecified dimensions and other data like variances as needed.
- May be required to direct workers engaged in measuring and testing product.
- Tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and part reliability.
- Required to verify accuracy of all gauges and measuring instruments and reports discrepancies to Quality Manager.
- Checks accuracy of parts according to blueprint specifications. Checks parts for measurement of dimensions and tolerances (i.e., GD&T).
- Compares product with parts list of sample model to ensure completion of assembly.
- May be required to use statistical process control techniques.
- Daily use of an ERP system (i.e. Epicor) to perform data entry or inquiry as needed in accordance to established company guidelines.
- Rejects defective parts and marks type of defect on proper documentation of paperwork or tag.
- Relies on specific instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
- Reads blueprint and Job Traveler for such information as dimensions, tolerances, work center outside services and finished operations and number of workpieces to be machined.
- Understands and follows Prince quality certifications (i.e., ISO) as relates to position.
- Completes all necessary job-related paperwork in a concise and timely manner (such as tags inspection reports).
- Transport the finished materials, manually or using pallet jack, to area indicated in Job Traveler.
- Maintains good housekeeping in work area.
- Works under direct supervision.
- Works effectively with all department personnel and co-workers in a harmonious and cooperative manner to meet the needs and goals established by the company.
- May be required to work in the shop on production or work directly with shop personnel as instructed by Quality Manager.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor may include department transfers to meet production needs.
- Ability to recognize and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, inspection materials and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form with supervisor and all levels within the company as it relates to the job duties.
- Ability to comprehend and follow simple oral or written instructions.
- Ability to perform advanced math skills related to manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints (i.e., assembly blueprints, production blueprint, etc.).
- Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures within inspection and quality control field.
- Excellent knowledge of company's quality and production standards.
- Familiar with relevant ISO procedures.
- Proficient in the use of basic inspection measurement equipment (i.e., calipers, micrometers, height gauge, comparator, thread gauges, plug gauges, indicator, handheld CMM, etc.).
- Ability to pay attention to detail to visually inspect and recognize discrepancies in part's defects, blueprints, etc.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience, apprenticeship, or formal training desired.
- More than 3 years' experience in inspection field or related machine operation experience.
- Degree or certification in related field preferred.
$22 - $25 Hourly
Physical Job Requirements- Regularly required to sit, stand or walk the duration of shift, 8-10 hours.
- Frequently required to talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach or bend.
- Regularly lift, push or pull up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in which 20/20 vision or corrected vision to 20/20 vision is required.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles resulting from metalworking coolants and oils.
- The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud when working in the plant, in which hearing protection is required.
