Role Overview:
The Billing Operations Manager oversees the daily functions of the billing department, collaborating closely with Information Systems, Medical Records, Patient Access, and various Ancillary Departments to ensure adherence to compliance standards and the accuracy of all billing activities.
This role involves supervising billing personnel, managing billing systems, and refining billing processes.The Billing Operations Manager reports directly to an Operations Manager or Director and may undertake additional related responsibilities as assigned.
Leadership and Development:
Supervise multiple client billing operations and systems across various markets within the United States. Ensure that all team members are well-informed about State and Federal Rules and Regulations.
Whenever feasible, solicit employee feedback on policies and procedures that impact their work.
Facilitate attendance at seminars that enhance productivity and knowledge.Ensure that employees have the necessary tools to meet established goals.
Recruit and develop staff as departmental needs evolve.
Billing Management:
Collaborate with all departments to guarantee the accuracy of CPT4, HCPCS, and Revenue Codes.
Provide updates, notices, and coverage changes from Medicare and other payers that affect billing and reimbursement.
Review billing processes and systems to maintain the most effective methods for achieving departmental and facility objectives.
Implement changes in techniques and processes as needed.Work with IT to ensure that all UB/837/HCFA1500 modifications are executed to maintain billing accuracy.
Ensure that bill holds in electronic systems meet established targets.
Collaborate with Ancillary Departments, Patient Access, Medical Records, and Information Systems to ensure that clean claim rates meet set goals.
Engage with both electronic billing vendors and payers to resolve billing discrepancies.
Ensure that employees have access to all necessary tools.
Review 2% of billings for both quantity and quality.
Compliance Assurance:
Educate and ensure that all employees comprehend Compliance and the proper procedures for reporting compliance issues related to State, Federal, and HIPAA regulations. Attend relevant seminars, both internal and external, and share acquired knowledge with staff and other pertinent departments.
Reporting Responsibilities:
Accountable for the weekly Key Indicator Reports and Accomplishments Reports, which are due every Monday, along with daily billing error reports to departments.
Generate daily electronic and paper claim reports.
Produce other reports as requested by management.
Provide a weekly report of Late Charges to Departments.
Qualifications:
A University Degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience are required, along with a solid understanding of Hospital Medicare processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in billing with a healthcare provider or outsourcing company.
Prior experience with Relay Health ePremis claims scrubber is advantageous. Proficiency in a Windows environment is essential, including knowledge of desktop applications such as Word and Excel.
Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
