Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Respiratory Therapy Extern to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Respiratory Therapy Extern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced respiratory therapists and gain hands-on experience in providing high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist licensed respiratory therapists with routine and basic level respiratory therapy procedures, including oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, aerosol therapy, and incentive spirometry.
  • Organize and maintain supply of respiratory therapy equipment and supplies according to department-specific standards.
  • Collect and clean equipment, and process disposable/non-disposable equipment according to infection prevention guidelines.
  • Complete annual hospital competencies and learn new equipment, supplies, procedures, and processes as needed.
  • Perform patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to function independently.
