Overview

UF Health Shands is seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team. This 12-month grant-funded position is designed to support the Child Life team with clinical needs and provide new graduates with a year of paid experience before an entry-level role in the field.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement therapeutic programming and supportive services to meet the emotional, developmental, and social needs of hospitalized children.
  • Collaborate with the Child Life Director to gain advanced knowledge and skills of the Child Life Profession.
  • Build effective working relationships with patients, families, and multidisciplinary hospital teams.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Completed 600-hour Child Life Internship preferred.
  • Eligibility to sit for the ACLP national certification exam and successfully pass the exam within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development, family systems, Child Life theory, and how to apply theory to practice.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic charting to include assessment, goals, and intervention.
