About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Capacity Command Access Nurse. This is a unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary, cross-institutional team that plays a central role in managing capacity and access on behalf of the eleven hospital Mass General Brigham system.

The Capacity Command Center aims to enable safe, efficient, and timely patient care by serving as the unified hub for system capacity management. As a Capacity Command Access Nurse, you will work closely with teammates, colleagues, and other stakeholders to coordinate and optimize incoming hospital transfers and referrals for the system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Elicit patient information from referring physicians and outside facilities to facilitate appropriate patient triage and placement.
  • Direct patient transfers using triage tools and algorithms, working collaboratively with patient access services and others to transfer patients in a clinically appropriate timeframe.
  • Act as the manager and primary resource person for the Access Nurse, referring physicians, and MGB physicians, making decisions about level of care, priority, disposition, and arrival of intermediate and intensive care level patients.
  • Notify inpatient clinicians and input clinical documents in accordance with institutional standards.
  • Serve as a representative of the organization, consulting with administrators, patient care unit leadership, procedural unit leadership, and access services during extreme census.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing, BSN required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Massachusetts, required. CCRN certification preferred.
  • 10 years of adult critical care and/or emergency department experience required.
  • 5-year Nurse leader experience required, such as flow coordinator, access nurse, bed control.
