The Certified Patient Services Specialist embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adhering to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, while complying with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:
- Welcomes patients and creates a positive initial experience, acting as a patient advocate.
- Educates patients on necessary forms and documentation.
- Accurately processes patient paperwork to enhance departmental efficiency, generating necessary encounter forms.
- Inputs patient data and test requests into departmental systems with precision.
- Manages and appropriately directs incoming telephone inquiries.


- Collaborates with various hospital departments, physicians, and office staff to gather essential patient information, including requested tests and specimen requirements.

- Promotes teamwork through excellent communication skills.
- Engages in Safety and Infection Control initiatives, ensuring a safe and clean work environment.
- Documents incidents in a timely manner according to departmental policies.
- Performs phlebotomy, EKG, and specimen collection tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Labels and processes specimens in accordance with established protocols.
- Inputs collection data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) as required.
- Utilizes computer functions to troubleshoot issues and appropriately credit tests promptly.
- Aids in the training of nursing staff and residents.


Additional Duties:
- Undertakes other responsibilities as assigned.
- Participates in specific process improvement initiatives.
- Effectively interacts with patients across all age groups, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
