Job Overview

Europa Village Winery and Resort is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to oversee the accounting strategy and manage the accounting function. This role will report to the Director of Finance and work closely with the operations function of the company.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in finance and accounting, with experience in managing month-end close processes, preparing and reporting financial packages, and managing wine inventory. They will also have excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a BS or BA in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Real Estate Development, with a CPA or MBA designation preferred. They will also have high proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data management, as well as strong fluency with Oracle Financial Cloud and MS Office.

The Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting operations at Europa Village Winery and Resort, including managing the month-end close process, preparing and reporting financial packages, and managing wine inventory. They will also be responsible for analyzing and properly costing all inventories, including wine, F&B, and retail, and preparing various monthly departmental analysis reports.

The successful candidate will have a positive attitude and attention to detail, with the ability to create and foster an environment of teamwork and respect. They will also have a strong commitment to adhering to company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Manage the accounting operations at Europa Village Winery and Resort.
  • Manage the month-end close process.
  • Prepare and report financial packages.
  • Manage wine inventory.
  • Analyze and properly cost all inventories.
  • Prepare various monthly departmental analysis reports.
  • Participate in weekly head of department meetings.
  • Maintain construction in progress workpapers.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules.
  • Maintain capital expenditure schedules.
  • Monthly analysis of investor and capital balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare and record journal entries.
  • Manage the general ledger.
  • Assist and lead departmental system implementations.
  • Lead financial review with departmental heads.
  • Plan and lead year-end physical inventory counts.
  • Assist in preparation of annual I-924A Regional Center Certification.
  • Other ad-hoc reporting as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of BS or BA in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Real Estate Development.

  • Demonstrated involvement in professional organizations and community.
