Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at Carle Foundation Hospital. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic studies and assisting with therapeutic administrations utilizing radiopharmaceuticals and imaging equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic studies and radiopharmaceutical therapeutic administration by utilizing Nuc Med and/or PET/CT equipment.
  • Review cases with the radiologist when appropriate.
  • Administer IV radiopharmaceuticals by means of existing IV line or by performing veni-puncture and placing IV line.
  • Screen the patient for possibility of pregnancy and perform pregnancy testing if applicable.
  • Responsible to review radiology orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity.
  • Demonstrate acceptable imaging quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors and alignment.
  • Transfer and verify image data in PACS and provide necessary medical history and information for Radiologist interpretation.
  • Utilize the RIS for proper scheduling, billing and coding procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining imaging equipment and workplace environment.

Requirements:

  • Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) Radiography License.
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Nuclear Medicine certification or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Nuclear Medicine Technologist Registry.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Working Conditions:

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and responsibilities. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist must be able to work independently and as part of a team to ensure accurate and timely completion of diagnostic studies and therapeutic administrations.
