Job Overview

Position Title: Health Information Technician II

Role Summary: The individual in this role is tasked with duties related to the organization, classification, and summarization of medical documentation within the health records department. This is a supervisory position where the employee oversees technical or clerical staff in the health records unit.

  • Conducting thorough reviews of medical documentation to ensure completeness and precision, directing any incomplete or erroneous records to the appropriate personnel for rectification.
  • Generating statistical, case, and various report types.
  • Preparing necessary materials and forms while collecting all relevant information for patient admissions and discharges.
  • Ensuring accurate coding of all data.
  • Extracting information from charts and other patient records to fulfill information requests; may determine the legality of information release.
  • Contributing to the formulation of health records policies and procedures.
  • Evaluating existing policies and procedures to confirm compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Safeguarding the confidentiality and security of patient health records.
  • Providing requested information to judicial inquiries and courts as necessary.

Employment Type/Compensation:
  • Full-time
  • Annual Salary: $38,500, equivalent to $18.50/hour
  • Standard Working Hours: Monday 8am-5pm
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess accreditation from the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) along with two years of experience in a medical records environment; or eligibility for registration as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA); or five years of experience managing patient records in a healthcare setting such as a hospital, state institution, medical clinic, or physician's office.

Additional Requirements:
Candidates must be prepared to undertake any job-related travel associated with this position and must hold a valid driver's license.
