Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer I/GWP to join our team at the City of Glendale. As an Electrical Engineer I/GWP, you will be responsible for performing complex professional engineering work and assisting in training and directing subordinate staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure Department services are provided with the highest level of customer service and ethical standards.
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of designs, specifications, plans, estimates, studies, and reports involved in the construction, maintenance, and operation of an electric utility and communication system.
  • Perform power systems studies and failure analysis.
  • Review and analyze costs, and conduct cost-benefit studies in the construction and operation of the electric utility system.
  • Supervise and participate in engineering and research investigations.
  • Prepare engineering specifications, request proposals, staff reports, and contract documents.
  • Analyze bids, and prepare and oversee contracts.
  • Oversee projects, including budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, monitoring, and controlling.
  • Meet with the public and representatives of other agencies regarding engineering and construction requirements.
  • Represent the Department in committees and industry associations.
  • Review construction work for compliance with industry and safety standards, engineering specifications, and design requirements.
  • Supervise employees in the Electrical Engineering Office or Power Supply Group in assigned engineering tasks.
  • Review and evaluate employees' job performance and recommend appropriate personnel action.
Requirements
  • Two years of professional experience in electrical engineering, including one year in the electric utility field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Valid Class C California driver's license.
  • Registration as an Electrical Engineer with the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

  • Knowledge of applicable safety rules, practices, and procedures.
  • Electrical power system design and construction practices.
  • Engineering economics.
  • Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Operations of an electric utility.
  • Principles of supervision.
  • Utility financial and accounting practices.
