Medical Physicist Assistant

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Medical Physicist Assistant to join their team. The selected candidate will work closely with qualified medical physicists, dosimetrists, and other team members to ensure the safe and effective delivery of radiation as prescribed for patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist physicists and physics residents in their duties, including tasks in quality assurance programs, radiation measurements, image processing, and radiation treatment planning.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Prepare radiation treatment plans, including image fusion and composite dosimetry, and determine and validate delivered doses.
  • Support other healthcare professionals and evaluate radiation treatments to enhance the efficiency of medical physics operations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Science or equivalent degree required, Master's of Science or Doctorate degree preferred.
  • Experience in physics, other scientific laboratory, or scientific clinical support role is highly preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling, climbing (ladder, steps), and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
  • Ability to lift/push/pull lbs.

This position may be exposed to electric current while working on electronic equipment, extreme temperatures in steam tunnels, and standing on different surfaces. The University of Virginia is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from diverse candidates.
