Job Title: Principal Engineer - Cloud AI & Advanced Systems

Microsoft Corporation is seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer to join our Cloud AI & Advanced Systems Engineering (CAASE) team. This team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of custom and differentiating hardware acceleration solutions for Azure. They will collaborate with both internal Microsoft teams and external partners to investigate opportunities to use custom silicon and programmable hardware FPGAs to customize cloud-scale solutions for strategic applications.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of technical engineering experience, with a strong background in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field. They should have expertise in the architecture and implementation of custom hardware accelerators and/or FPGAs, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Job Description

We are looking for a talented engineer who can drive the co-development of hardware platforms for internal and external customers, driving platforms that are robust, scalable, and meet the needs of a diverse range of customers.

Responsibilities
  • Create robust, scalable, secure, and extensible architecture solutions and/or verification plans that account for industry/competitive threats.
  • Analyze performance and present results and insights to provide recommendations and path forward for the team and architects.
  • Specify the architecture and microarchitecture of accelerators on FPGA and on custom silicon.
  • Advise others on the creation of single/multiple project implementation schedules and anticipate project implementation issues.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with the architecture and implementation of custom hardware accelerators and/or FPGAs.
Salary Range:$137,600 - $267,000 per year (base pay range for this role across the U.S.).
