Oncology Hospitalist Physician

The Duke Cancer Institute is actively recruiting for a Hospitalist Physician to integrate into our Medical Oncology / Solid Tumor Inpatient Service. As a Hospitalist Physician, you will provide clinical care for adult oncology patients admitted at Duke University Hospital, and teach staff, graduate medical trainees, and medical students on inpatient educational rotations.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise teams of house staff and/or advanced practice providers (APPs) engaged in direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of your overall professional responsibility.
Engage in direct patient care activities during times of high census, including assessment, evaluation, pain and symptom management, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic recommendations, and medical decision making.
Communicate effectively with patient family members, friends, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to encourage/support an open visitor-friendly environment within the medical/hospital environment.
Collaborate extensively with primary oncology teams who routinely manage the cancer care of patients in the outpatient setting.
Participate in day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the interdisciplinary team.
Maintain accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements.
Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited MD or DO medical school
Completion of Internal Medicine Residency Program
Hematology/Oncology Fellowship preferred, but not required
Board Eligible IM pending or recent graduates may apply, but otherwise American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification is required.
Board Certified in Hematology and/or Oncology is preferred, but not required.
License to practice medicine issued by the NCMB
Federal and State DEA License
Hospitalist and/or Hematology/Oncology experience preferred but welcome new grad applicants
