About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to join our team at UnitedHealth Group. As a Patient Access Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patients receive timely and accurate access to healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits to ensure accurate information and needs are met in advance of service.
  • Collect and update patient demographic and insurance information, making changes as necessary to ensure accuracy with insurance benefits, referrals, and authorizations.
  • Assess coverage and benefits, and accurately determine patient responsibility as applicable.
  • Identify self-pay patients and share information with financial counseling for assistance with patient financial obligation and options.
  • Partner closely with the clinical, office, billing, and registration teams to review authorizations timely, as applicable.
  • Appropriately document all conversations with insurance companies and healthcare facilities that pertain to the authorizations or payment of services.
  • Escalate questions or concerns to leadership as needed.
  • Maintain and exhibit a current knowledge of insurance plans, associated workflows and information, and the impact of this role within the revenue cycle.
  • Remain aware of department productivity expectations, and other measurable performance data and meets/exceeds individual contributions to the team performance.
  • Strive to maximize revenue and minimize bad debt.
  • Maintain a safe environment complying with NLH policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 6+ months of experience in an office setting, customer service setting (over the phone OR face to face), phone support role, or call center environment
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work 20 hours per week, within the following hours
    • Monday - Friday from 2:00pm - 10:30pm
    • Saturday & Sunday shifts ranging between 5:30am - 10:30pm
  • Flu vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate Flu vaccination doses must also comply with those state requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working an overnight schedule
  • 1+ years of Patient Access experience in a hospital OR medical setting
  • Understanding of medical terminology
  • Working knowledge of insurance policies, procedures, and patient care settings
