Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Meat Department Team Lead to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our meat department, you will be responsible for assisting the team leader in all aspects of daily operations, including profitability, expense control, buying, merchandising, labor, regulatory compliance, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain creative store layouts and product merchandising to drive sales and customer engagement.
  • Work with the team leader to achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets, and assist in analyzing sales reports and labor data.
  • Assist the team leader in annual sales and expense projections and budget preparation, and help with ordering and inventory management.
  • Function as the point person and departmental person in charge in the absence of the team leader, and maintain awareness of customer flows and needs.
  • Select, train, develop, mentor, motivate, and counsel team members to sustain a high-performance team and minimize turnover.
  • Communicate and maintain team member safety and security standards, and provide timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations.
  • Consistently communicate and model Whole Foods Market's vision and goals, and foster a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale.
Requirements
  • 18+ months retail team member experience and 6+ months of supervisory experience.
  • High energy, enthusiastic, and displays an affinity for our products, core values, and company philosophy.
  • Extensive knowledge of meat products, and a growth mindset towards greater responsibility and ownership.
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills, and the ability to teach others in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures, and proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, and work in a fast-paced environment with frequent standing, walking, and bending.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals, and temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, and use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
