Department Overview: The Senior Editor, Brand & Communications is an integral member of the Product Strategy and Development (PSD) department's editorial team, reporting directly to the Editorial Director. This team is pivotal in shaping the organization's product strategy, roadmap, and development in alignment with IM's overarching vision and objectives. The editorial team holds the responsibility for all editorial decisions across the PSD department and the organization, determining the suitability for publication of all public-facing materials.
The Senior Editor will collaborate closely with the Brand & Communications (B&C) department, coordinating project timelines and producing, refining, and proofreading content to ensure all marketing materials uphold IM's exceptional quality standards while enhancing brand visibility among diverse audiences.
Role Summary: The Senior Editor, Brand & Communications is a seasoned and adaptable writer, editor, leader, and project manager, capable of seamlessly transitioning between roles to convey ideas in a creative and concise manner while fostering efficient, collaborative workflows across teams. This role involves leading the creation and refinement of brand content and delegating writing and editing tasks as necessary.
To excel in this position, you should possess a passion for storytelling and the ability to craft engaging and inspiring content tailored to various audiences in the mathematics education sector. You must be articulate, innovative, and process-oriented, comfortable managing creative projects of varying scales. A strategic mindset combined with a creative flair will be essential to inform, inspire, and engage target audiences in K–12 mathematics education.

Travel Requirements: Less than 20 percent
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the B&C team to develop engaging print and digital content while ensuring a consistent brand voice and identity.
- Research, conceptualize, write, edit, and proofread content across all B&C channels, including email campaigns, social media, websites, podcasts, videos, and thought leadership platforms.
- Plan, create, and refine case studies, presentations, white papers, reports, guides, and other communications.
- Maintain ongoing communication with editorial and cross-departmental team members to ensure external communications accurately reflect IM's mission, philosophies, curriculum, professional development, events, and services.
- Establish and adhere to brand guidelines, copy standards, and content libraries.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Delegate projects and supervise the work of other writers and editors as needed to meet deadlines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Editorial Director.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communications, English, or a related field.
- Over 10 years of experience in editing and writing, preferably within educational publishing or as an education journalist.
- A collaborative team player with the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects from inception to completion, and adapt to changes swiftly.
- Exceptional storytelling and communication skills.
- Ability to understand diverse audiences and tailor messaging accordingly.
- Experience in managing teams of writers and/or editors.
- A commitment to personal and professional growth within the organization.
- A solid understanding of mission-driven work, education policy, and the challenges and opportunities within the education sector.

Compensation & Benefits:
In line with our commitment to equity in practice and policy, Illustrative Mathematics offers competitive salaries based on experience and education. This position is exempt, with an annual salary range of $95,000 - $105,000.
IM provides a comprehensive benefits package, including:
