UMWA Union Position

DEPARTMENT: Children and Youth Services

SALARY: $18.80/hour

HOURS: 40 Hours per Week

8:00 am to 4:30 pm

On-call duty on a rotating basis with other Caseworkers.

BENEFITS: Full County Benefits after 90 days

Probationary Period- Medical after the first day of new month after hire date

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:

To deliver case management services for an assigned caseload. This is an entry-level professional social service role, and all activities are conducted under the close supervision of a County Caseworker Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
  1. Engage in formal and informal training programs to gain foundational knowledge related to the agency's mission and applicable laws, methods, procedures, rules, and regulations governing agency operations.
  2. Conduct entry-level case management responsibilities for approximately twenty families, including foster children, protective services, supervision services, and child abuse cases, which involve regular home visits and inspections/assessments.
  3. Prepare and provide accurate and comprehensive testimony in court for assigned cases.
  4. Maintain individual case notes, dictation, and documentation on assigned cases in compliance with state requirements.
  5. Utilize computer software and other office equipment as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
  6. Identify and coordinate services for individuals and make timely referrals to the team.
  7. Collaborate closely with other professionals such as behavior therapists, speech and hearing therapists, physical therapists, registered and/or licensed practical nurses, psychologists, physicians, and others to ensure effective care and treatment.
OTHER DUTIES OF THE JOB:
  1. Attend training sessions as needed and approved by the supervisor.
  2. Serve as a resource for individuals seeking information.
  3. Assist colleagues in addressing the needs of consumers.
  4. Perform any other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Regular instruction and ongoing supervision regarding daily work responsibilities from Supervisor.

SUPERVISION GIVEN:

None.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  1. Work in both indoor and outdoor environments with adequate workspace, lighting, ventilation, and temperature control.
  2. Experience above-average exposure to stress and noise, with frequent disruptions.
  3. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
  4. Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS:
  1. Ability to record, convey, and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.
  2. Capability to sit for extended periods throughout the workday, with intermittent standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and driving as necessary to perform essential job duties.
  3. Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso as necessary to carry out job duties.
  4. Light work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to twenty pounds.
  5. Must demonstrate emotional stability.
  6. Ability to cope with the physical and mental demands of the position.
  7. Attention to detail and the ability to concentrate on work tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. EDUCATION/TRAINING
A bachelor's degree in social work; or a bachelor's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences, along with 1 year of social service experience; or a bachelor's degree in another field supplemented by 12 college credits in the social sciences and 2 years of direct social service work experience. Alternatively, any equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 college credits.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  1. Proficiency in speaking and understanding the English language and following oral and written instructions.
  2. Knowledge of current social case management principles, techniques, and methods.
  3. Awareness of current social, economic, and health issues and their impact on individual growth and development.
  4. Understanding of individual and group development and behaviors, and effective interaction with adults and children facing social, economic, emotional, or health challenges.
  5. Familiarity with the basic principles and methods of program interpretation and community organization.
  6. Ability to work effectively with individuals and support their constructive use of potential in adjusting to specific disabilities.
  7. Competence in understanding and assessing the needs and rights of others, including those who are physically challenged, emotionally troubled, or economically disadvantaged.
  8. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  9. Initiative and problem-solving abilities.
  10. Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of local, state, and federal agencies, health organizations, and the general public.
  11. Skills in conducting research and organizing professional presentations.
  12. Technical knowledge of operating personal computers and other office equipment.
  13. Ability to prepare required reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  14. Familiarity with federal, state, and county laws, policies, and procedures regarding local government operations.
  15. Ability to manage a high volume of work efficiently.
  16. Basic math skills and capability to maintain confidentiality regarding county information and records.
  17. Valid Driver's License required.
