Summary/Objective

The Automotive Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing and executing repairs on all vehicle systems with precision, efficiency, and in alignment with dealership and manufacturer standards.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections, troubleshooting, and testing to identify necessary repairs.
  • Accurately diagnose issues and perform required repairs, including engine repairs, mechanical and electrical system fixes, and parts replacements.
  • Assess assigned vehicles to determine if additional safety or service work is needed.
  • Ensure vehicle serviceability and guarantee quality repairs by conducting test drives and making necessary adjustments.
  • Maintain cleanliness of customer vehicles throughout the repair process.
  • Manage costs effectively by utilizing warranties and evaluating service and parts options for repairs.
  • Communicate with Service Advisors and/or Dispatchers regarding any additional work required.
  • Assist Service Writers in creating work orders, conducting test drives, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Keep inventory stocked by managing supplies and placing orders as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote efficiency.
  • Document all performed and recommended work on repair orders in accordance with company procedures.
  • Stay informed about automotive terminology and technological advancements.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality standards, accurately recording work hours.
  • Follow the Code of Business Ethics and Conduct.
  • Comply with all work rules and procedures, following lawful directions from supervisors.
  • Uphold confidentiality and non-disclosure policies.
  • Present a professional appearance in line with company standards.
  • Participate in relevant training sessions as requested.
  • Attend company meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to listen to customers and determine their needs.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of automotive systems, tools, and repair processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality work.
  • Proficiency in using technical reference materials and manuals.
  • Capability to explain technical terms to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to follow established processes to ensure quality and safety.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
Required Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent, along with two years of related experience or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

An Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school, with two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

ASE Certification is preferred.

Work Environment

Work primarily takes place in an automotive shop environment. The workspace is covered but may involve exposure to various weather conditions and safety hazards due to the nature of the work. Regular exposure to loud noise is expected.

Physical Demands

This position requires medium to heavy work, including lifting over 50 pounds with assistance and frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to or over 35 pounds. Employees must be able to stand for extended periods and perform tasks involving pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, grasping, and walking regularly. Repetitive motion is involved, and the ability to talk and hear is essential.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Evening, weekend, and holiday work hours may be required.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
